Precious
(Endangered Species IV)
The pangolin is one of the most endangered mammals on earth, driven to the brink by trafficking for its keratin scales, which are worth more than gold on the black market. Found across Asia and Africa, these elusive creatures help keep ecosystems in balance, yet their survival grows ever more fragile. When threatened, they curl into a tight ball - an instinctive shield that, against humans, becomes their undoing. My sculpture reflects both the high price placed on their scales and the vulnerability of this defensive pose, a reminder of how easily such a rare treasure can be lost.
